Why is BioServ the Best Choice for Medical Waste Management in Pennsylvania?

Pennsylvania is a big state with lots of beautiful country–but its very size is a logistical challenge that has led to an interesting pattern in the medical waste industry: the rise of subcontracting. In fact, there are more customers using third-party brokers in Pennsylvania then in any of the many states we service.

Here's how a third-party broker works: You sign a service agreement with the broker company and then they subcontract that service to a company that has local trucks on the ground. There's nothing inherently wrong with this set-up; BioServ even completes subcontracting work for some brokers.

However, depending on the transporter used, your initial savings with the broker can cost you more–in time, money, and hassles–in the long run. In many cases you may not even know you've hired a broker until the driver from the transporting company shows up for your first service–but by then you are already committed to a long-term contract.

At BioServ, we never employ subcontractors. Our customers can choose from a comprehensive suite of disposal and compliance services, all of which are performed by a highly trained company employee. All waste is transported on a licensed and insured company vehicle. From the first time you contact us, you'll experience personal, hands-on service at an exceptional value.

Other PA Medical Waste Regulations

  • Regulated Medical Waste Definition RMW includes waste which generated in the diagnosis, treatment, immunization or autopsy of human beings or animals, in research pertaining thereto, in the preparation of human or animal remains for interment or cremation, or in the production or testing of biologicals.
  • RMW Segregation Requirements Generators must segregate RMW into three categories: RMW excluding pathological waste, pathological waste, and chemotherapeutic waste. Each category of waste must be kept in a separate container.
  • Regulated Medical Waste Storage RMW must be stored in leak-proof labeled containers and kept in a marked area with restricted access and protection from the elements, insects, and animals, with refrigeration if necessary. After a waste container is full or sealed, the generator may keep it for no longer than 30 days.
